Based on Henri Matisse’s infamous cut outs, ‘Verve’ is series of ceramic vessels and wall-hung sculptures that showcase the beginning of my exploration into colour and wall installation. Where I ordinarily allude to landscape through subtle colour and texture, I refer here to Matisse’s simplified and abstracted representations of the natural environment. I have focused particularly on Matisse’s ‘Blue Nudes’ Series, creating bulbous, curved wall-hung sculptures and vessels that blur the line between figuration and abstraction, finished in a deep, buffed blue.
